Sermon Outline

Bearing Each Other’s Burdens

Scripture: Galatians 6:1-5

I. Introduction: Do you feel that sharing your burdens with others is a sign of weakness? Oftentimes, we carry loads the Lord never meant for us to bear alone. In this message, we’ll talk about how to share our struggles with other Christians, and how to restore fellow believers who have fallen into sin.

II. Review from “Letting God Handle Your Burdens.”

A. Definition: A burden is a heaviness of the heart, spirit, or soul—something that weighs us down emotionally, mentally, or spiritually.

B. Two sources of burdens:

  • God
  • Life’s circumstances

III. How do we go about bearing each other’s loads?

A. Take the appropriate action: Get involved.

  • Getting to know others places us in a position to recognize how to best help them.

B. Have the right purpose in mind: Restoration.

  • We should work to restore the emotional, spiritual, mental, or physical health of others.

C. Have the right motive: Love.

  • John 13:34 tells us, “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you love one another.”

  • First Peter 4:8 says, “Above all, keep fervent in your love for one another, because love covers a multitude of sins.”

D. Have the right attitude: Gentleness.

  • We must approach others with compassion when bearing their burdens. A gentle person is one who is patient, caring, loving, kind, forgiving, and accepting.

IV. Closing: Are you ready and available? The Lord wants you to be the type of person that He could use to restore suffering saints to wholeness. Get ready by putting your own life in order so that you can help others return to fellowship with God.
